Painting Your Picture Of Health

Wellness means something different to everyone, but there are some common actions we can all take to become our healthiest selves. Check out our tips and use them as paints and brushes to create your personalized picture of health. Mix and match, brush a lot or dab a little, stand back and admire, and repeat the process as needed!

  • Fuel Up: Calculate your MyPlate plan to find out how much and what foods you need, based on your height, weight, age, and physical activity level.
  • Get Moving: Make a plan to get active! Create your Activity Planner on the Department of Health and Human Services Move Your Way website. Set your own weekly goals, choose the activities you want to do, and get motivational tips.
  • Press Pause: We all have unique stressors and stress busters, but taking a few moments of pause during stressful times is an action that benefits everyone. These moments give us time to identify sources as well as solutions. For more information, visit Manage Stress.
  • Catch Some ZZZs: Sleep helps maintain a healthy mind and body. Discover how much sleep you need and the health benefits of quality sleep at Get Enough Sleep.
  • Protect Yourself: Complete the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)’s Adult Vaccine Assessment to get a list of vaccines you may need—beyond your yearly flu shot—based on your responses. Discuss this list with your health care provider.
  • Know Your Numbers: Speaking of your health care provider, prevention starts with regularly scheduled visits. Use the MyHealthfinder tool to get personalized prevention recommendations, so that you know where you stand regarding your risk for heart disease, high blood pressure (hypertension), diabetes, and other medical conditions.
  • Connect with Others: A healthy relationship is feeling good about yourself around your partner, family member, friend, and/or co-worker. You feel safe talking about how you feel. You listen to each other. You feel valued, and you trust each other. Learn more about Building Social Bonds: Connections That Promote Well-Being.
  • Look Around: Did you know that surroundings can impact your health? Learn more at the National Institutes of Health Environmental Wellness Toolkit website.
  • Stay Safe: Stay up to date on the latest COVID-19 safety recommendations at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention COVID-19 website.
